ReStore Spotlight: Wilkinson and Gaston Stores
For years, I’ve been shopping at all the Charlotte Region ReStores for both my home and my business. Each store has its own personality and I often shop for specific things at different locations. So, I’m highlighting all the stores so you could see them through Sadie-colored glasses- and come to understand why each one has a special place in my upcycling/decorating heart. Today, I want to talk about the Wilkinson and Gaston ReStores and my favorite aspects of each location.
Wilkinson ReStore
3326 Wilkinson Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28208
Located just west of Uptown, the Wilkinson ReStore might be the biggest secret of them all. The store is usually quieter than other locations and always chock full of merchandise. And there are particular sections/features of the store that make it stand out in my mind; here are my absolute favorite spots:
Upholstered Furniture

For whatever reason, I often see impressive chairs, couches, and sofas at the Wilkinson store. In fact, the couch in our living room came from the Wilkinson ReStore! So, if you’re in the market for something upholstered, don’t pass up this location.
Light Fixtures and Lamps
I fully admit that I have a weakness for all things illumination. And I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve seen antique floor lamps and retro table lamps in the Wilkinson store. So, if you need some accent lighting or a quirky chandelier to upcycle, this store might be the spot for you.
Vintage/Antique Treasures

From primitive antiques to Art Deco waterfall pieces…and mid-century modern furniture to Golden Girls-era accents straight from the 1980s, I’ve seen it all at this ReStore. Especially in the center of the store where the end tables, dressers, and china cabinets can be found. But don’t forget to stroll through the back left corner of the store for additional furniture pieces, too.
Appliances

Need a new stove, fridge, or washer/dryer? I’m always amazed at the selection of appliances at the Wilkinson store. The ReStores can be such a life saver when your current appliances let you down- especially this particular store.
Gaston ReStore
1840 E. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28054
Located between Gastonia’s historic downtown and commercial districts, the Gaston ReStore is the newest member of the Charlotte Region ReStores’ family. And let me tell you- this location is absolutely HUGE. I love to stroll the entire store in search of treasures and inspiration, but there are a few things I think this store really should be known for.
Glassware

I know what you’re thinking- all thrift stores have a ton of glassware! But the Gaston ReStore really is in a class by itself. So, if you’re looking for drinking glasses for your kitchen, wine glasses for a craft project, or vases, punch bowls, and platters, promise me you’ll head to this location first.
Holiday Décor

If you love Christmas decorations (or any holiday/season, for that matter), then this location needs to be on your thrifting list. There’s an entire corner of the store that is virtually dedicated to all sorts of holiday decorations. For your Merry/Happy everything, the Gaston store is the place to go.
End/Side Tables
One of the first things you’ll see when you walk in this location is a sea of small tables. End tables, accent tables, bedside tables- you name it, Gaston’s got it. They’re all lined up in the middle of the store, making it so easy to inspect, measure, and imagine it in your own home. Truly a dream selection if you’re in the market, that’s for sure!
Wall Art

Truthfully, I’ve shopped for wall art and frames at all seven ReStores. But there really is something special about seeing all the available artwork hanging on a wall or on shelf displays. And that’s what I love about the Gaston store’s wall art section- 90% is displayed so you see how it looks without having to file through frame after frame.
If you happen to be cruising along Wilkinson/74, I hope you’ll pop into one of or both of these ReStores. Especially if you’ve never been to them before. And definitely let us see the treasures that you find by tagging @cltregionrestore on Instagram and Facebook!
